Download PDF of flyer

As part of the monthly programs to celebrate San Francisco Japantown's 100th Anniversary, the topic of "New Year's Preparation" will be discussed on Sunday, December 17, featuring a very familiar face in the community.  The event will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Issei Memorial Hall of the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC), 1840 Sutter Street, San Francisco.

Akitoshi Takazawa, Kimochi Inc.'s nutrition program chef, will demonstrate how to make traditional New Year's food.  Takazawa will show you how to make ozoni (soup with mochi), nishime (simmered vegetarian plate) and osechi (traditional Japanese New Year's foods).  There will also be sekihan (sticky rice steamed with azuki beans) and yokan (sweet azuki bean jello).

Reservations are required for this free workshop.  Please call Teresa Ono at 415-567-5505 x234 or e-mail to info@sfjapantown100.org by December 14.

This is the final "100 Years of Culture and Traditions" workshop, which was part of a series of monthly activities during 2006 to recognize a seasonal, cultural or generational topic.  Speakers included native San Franciscans, long time residents or experts knowledgeable about a particular field who were asked to make a presentation on the subject matter created for that month.  The purpose of these monthly events was to learn and share traditions and to also reflect on how far we have evolved as a community over the past 100 years.
